Cortisol is much more than just a hormone released during stress. Understanding Cortisol and its effect on the body will help the balance hormone and achieve good health.
Cortisol receptors present in every cell of our body, it affects many different functions in the body. Cortisol can help control blood sugar levels, regulate metabolism, help reduce inflammation, and assist with memory . It has a controlling effect on salt and water balance and helps control blood pressure. In women, cortisol also supports the developing fetus during pregnancy. All of these functions make cortisol a crucial hormone to protect overall health and well-being. Cortisol may help to control allergies  (by stabilizing Lysosomes). A major burst of Cortisol secretion occurs during the early morning and after meals.  Peak Cortisol levels occur at approximately 7:00 a.m. and lowest levels occur at approximately 11:00 p.m, Thereafter, the release of Cortisol from the Adrenal Cortex occurs only in brief bursts (7 to 15 episodes per day). 5% of the body’s Cortisol is loosely bound to Albumin.
